There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is not legal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that features a number of luxuries in addition to the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
